We collect information you provide directly to us, including: your email address when you create an account; content you capture through the Defer macOS application; your preferences for AI summarisation and content organisation; and any communications you send to us. We also automatically collect usage data such as features used, timestamps, device information, and browser type to improve our Service.
We use your information to: provide and maintain the Defer Service; process and classify your captured content using artificial intelligence; generate summaries based on your preferences; improve our AI models and Service functionality; communicate with you about updates, security alerts, and support; and comply with legal obligations. We do not use your captured content to train our AI models without your explicit consent.
Defer uses artificial intelligence to classify, summarise, and organise content you capture. Your content is processed by our AI systems to provide you with meaningful summaries and categorisation. You can configure your summarisation preferences in your account settings. AI-generated summaries are for informational purposes and may not always be complete or accurate. We retain the right to improve our summarisation algorithms based on anonymised usage patterns.
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with: service providers who assist in operating our Service (such as cloud hosting and AI processing providers) under strict confidentiality agreements; law enforcement when required by law or to protect our rights; and in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case you will be notified of any change in ownership or use of your information.
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, secure authentication mechanisms, and regular security audits. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but commit to promptly notifying you of any data breach that may affect your information.
We retain your captured content and account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. You may delete individual items or your entire account at any time. Upon account deletion, we will delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain information for legal or legitimate business purposes.
We use essential cookies to maintain your session and authenticate your account. We may use analytics tools to understand how users interact with our Service and to improve functionality. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, but this may limit your ability to use certain features of the Service. We do not use cookies for advertising purposes or share cookie data with advertisers.
You have the right to: access and receive a copy of your personal data; correct inaccurate information; delete your account and associated data; export your captured content; object to certain processing of your data; and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You can exercise these rights through your account settings or by contacting us at privacy@defer.app. We will respond to your request within 30 days.
We use third-party services to provide our Service, including cloud infrastructure providers and AI processing services. These providers are bound by confidentiality agreements and are only authorised to use your information as necessary to provide services to us. When you capture content from third-party websites, we store only the text you capture—we do not access or store your browsing history or activity on those sites.
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. We ensure that such transfers comply with applicable data protection laws through appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission. By using our Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.
Defer is not intended for children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 16, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@defer.app.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or through a notice on our Service at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. If you are a California resident, you have rights under CCPA including the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information).
